"Everyone's confused. I have people phone me up, all the time, asking what's going on. They're government workers, and they don't know what's going on. Well, I don't know what's going on, either."

"In 1931 Molly walked home with her two sisters, following the rabbit proof fence. Mr Neville, the Government Protector, was outwitted and defeated. Now, 76 years later, John Howard is subjecting Aboriginal communities to the kinds of laws and the kind of thinking that Mr Neville used. He says that "Unless the Indigenous people of this country become part of the mainstream of the nation, their future is bleak." Aboriginal culture lies at the very heart of this country. What will we do if that is destroyed."

"In 1997 Women for Wik was an important part of the national debate when the Howard Government tried to extinguish Native Title by the
infamous 10-Point Plan. In 2007 we also intend to play an
important part in monitoring and publicising the equally infamous NT National Emergency Response Act of 2007 which allows for the compulsory acquisition of the land and property of Indigenous people."

The more I learn about this process, the more concerned I am about the
damage these changes could create for the same children that have been
used as the reason for this intervention. We already have a drastic
lack of services, too many Indigenous people in prison, too many
children notified for being at risk, too few paid jobs and inadequate
housing. The remedies are more local jobs and services planned
collaboratively with those living there, not more policing and
bureaucrats (it will costs about $8000 per person to quarantine half
their income). We need to act now to avoid new problems of fewer paid jobs and destroying what is already working.
