UN HR Commissioner

The UN Human Rights Commissioner, Navi Pillay will be here in Australia towards the end of May. As we did when James Anaya, UN Rapporteur visited in 2009, we want to be able to present her with a letter signed by many thousands of Australians who believe in human rights.

For this to happen we need your urgent help!

Sign the petition here or download a copy and print so you can collect signatures on the letter. More background information that is included with the petition is available for printing here.

Please help us make this a forceful letter.

  1. While colonisation has had the same effect on Indigenous people worldwide the significant factor that makes Australia different is the DENIAL of the genocidal intent for cultural supremacy by a minority middle class white Australians. Narcissistically ignored are the noteworthy contributions made by Aboriginal people to our shared history, from medicines and first aid to Aussie rules, whilst suffering a more harsh social environment than the colonial forbearers, they also coped with drought and the depression, imagine living through a depression that lasted seven generations.

The history of Australian citizenship and welfare, from 1900’s onwards, demonstrates Indigenous peoples astounding resilience to adversity and still today continue to work with non Indigenous people to advance and overcome the impacts of European contact.
Australian Aboriginal people, the oldest living culture denigrated to third world conditions against a backdrop of a highly socialized Western system that made it wealth from natural resources on Native Title lands, in a country classed as having one of the best lifestyles in the world. It’s a complete contradiction and indicia that a society should be measured by how it treats its most disadvantaged. When you see the institutionalized pauperisation and systemic impoverishment don’t think it is the result of alcoholism or violence, as these too were introduced to a race that had a pure diet and no gene for alcohol and horizontal violence has been condoned by a vertical power hierachy.
If God is whatever binds your conscience, then most public servants and politicians, particularly those instituting the NT intervention, are guilty of idolatry to their employer.

I thank you for all your efforts in helping to continue the favoured biological line from which Aboriginal people are descended from Alpha to Omega.
